Wonky techno - Wonky techno is a relatively new term for a style of techno music that is based around breaking from a formulaic 4-4 beat structure and experimenting with new sounds and rhythms. The sound is often distorted, stuttering, broken and warped, with a lot of influence from breakbeat and electro.

New Beat - New Beat music was a contemptorary genre to Techno and House music from Detroit and Chicago respectively, although not intrinsically linked. New Beat originated in Belgium in the late 1980s and was a fore-runner to European House music.

Tartan techno - Tartan techno refers to the hundreds of new electronic music artists that originated in Scotland during the country's highly popular rave scene during the 1990s. The name is derived from the country's association with tartan.
